You read that right! From now on we not only run the Mosel Chalets with a lot of passion, but also climate-neutral – certified by ClimatePartner, one of the best-known partners for climate protection. You can find out more about our motives and how we proceeded here:
We wanted to do more
Anyone who knows us knows that we built the Mosel Chalets to the highest standards. Modern architecture, naturalness, sustainability and well-being are the elements that we attach great importance to. Guests who arrive in our holiday homes should feel exactly that immediately. That’s why we decided, for example, to use the highest quality and most sustainable type of construction: the wooden construction. We deliberately decided against air conditioning and for outdoor sun curtains. When building the holiday homes, pollutants were avoided as far as possible and we use purely ecological cleaning agents. We try to keep equipment as long as possible or to replace it in a clever and environmentally friendly way. Although this is not as easy in holiday homes as in residential buildings, we always examine each topic for environmental compatibility and sustainability in the broader sense. Incidentally, we also do this in all other areas. We want our children to be able to grow up in a healthy world and we are convinced that we can all do our small, or even better, a big part in helping the world continue. Pointing to politicians and calling for them is good – waiting for them to take action is less so. We simply wanted to do more and therefore dealt intensively with the compensation of CO2 emissions and climate protection projects.
Briefly explained: The principle of climate neutrality
Companies, processes and products are climate-neutral if their CO2 emissions have been officially calculated and offset by supporting internationally recognized climate protection projects. In addition to avoidance and reduction, this compensation of CO2 emissions is an important step in holistic climate protection. Greenhouse gases such as CO2 are distributed evenly in the atmosphere, so the concentration of greenhouse gases is roughly the same everywhere on earth. For the global greenhouse gas concentration and the greenhouse effect, it is therefore irrelevant where on earth emissions are caused or avoided. Emissions that cannot be avoided locally can therefore be offset by climate protection projects elsewhere.
Our steps for climate-neutral accommodation in the Mosel Chalets
Together with ClimatePartner and their calculation tool, we calculated our entire CO2 footprint, reduced CO2 emissions and offset them through internationally recognized climate protection projects.
From now on, you will be staying with us climate-neutral! 💚
Here you will find our Climate ID , details on compensation and information about the climate protection projects.
We decided on the following projects:
Forest Conservation Kasigau Wildlife Corridor, Kenya
Marine Conservation, Plastic Bank, Worldwide
ClimatePartner’s climate protection projects are certified according to the highest standards. They also promote the achievement of the global sustainability goals of the UN (Sustainable Development Goals), such as fighting poverty or improving living conditions in emerging and developing countries. If you don’t know ClimatePartner yet, just keep your eyes open while shopping and researching on the web.
Our next steps
In addition to offsetting emissions, avoidance and reduction are elementary. We have recognized that our greatest lever is the energy supply. We will therefore complete our photovoltaic system and put it into operation next year. In addition, we will switch to real and certified green electricity and supplement it with our own electricity. By the way: We have learned that when it comes to green electricity, it is absolutely important to switch to a certified provider that supplies the electricity from 100% renewable energies. Unfortunately, not every green electricity tariff is really green here.
what can you do
We don’t want to tell you that. We are vacation rentals and not eco-pioneers. But we want to set a good example and tell you about it. Anyone who would like to take a look at their private CO2 emissions can take a look at ClimatePartner YOU for private customers. There you can use a simple calculator to record emissions for flights, trips and various everyday issues and offset them with a climate protection project of your choice. With donation receipt for the tax office.
By the way, there are a few interesting, current studies and surveys on the subject of sustainable travel. According to GFK, sustainability on vacation is important to more people, but implementation is still lacking. All the better that there are more and more portals for slow travel and sustainable, fair tourism. By the way, you can get to us in Pommern very well connected and travel by train via beautiful routes. The small train station can be reached in 5 minutes on foot. You can charge your e-bikes or e-cars in our garage.
On sustainability and greenwashing
As for the word “sustainability”, we are aware that the term is now used in an inflationary and unprotected manner. We have considered deleting or replacing it from our communications. On social media, for example, it often leads to negative comments. Nevertheless, we will continue to use it because we are transparent about the topic of sustainability for us and our actions. And we trust that you – the people we communicate and interact with – can very well distinguish between greenwashing and authenticity. Apart from environmental protection, for us sustainability means a healthy relationship between ecology and economy, fairness towards all partners, regionally responsible action and involvement in global climate protection projects. We are particularly proud of our real family team and our partners.
Speaking of definition: If you want to know more about the definitions of, for example, climate neutrality, CO2 emissions or climate protection projects, you will find very good and simple explanations at ClimatePartner, for example the explanatory video or a glossary with the most important questions and definitions.
We are very pleased to have taken the steps towards climate neutrality together with ClimatePartner. If you have any questions for us or would like more information, we look forward to hearing from you. And if our certification is of professional interest to you, be it through a blog, for portals or magazines, then feel free to contact us! There should be a lot more climate-neutral accommodation!
