Moselle Beauty Part 7: Eltz Castle

Hidden away, yet very close to the Mosel Chalets
Tucked away in the middle of the Elzbachtal forests sits one of the most famous castles in the world: Eltz Castle. Its picture used to adorn our 500 mark bill, today it is one of the most photographed motifs and an Instagram favorite of the travel blogger scene. Eltz Castle is a hilltop castle from the 12th century and is actually one of the most famous of its kind in Germany. It has been owned by the family of the same name for over 800 years.
The castle can be visited daily until the beginning of November. The guided tour of the castle takes visitors on a journey through eight centuries. One of the most important treasure chambers in Europe awaits you in the vaulted cellars of Eltz Castle. However, you will need a day ticket and should expect to wait in line. On popular days, it is better to be there before 10 am or after 4 pm.
You can easily manage this, because from our Moselle chalets you can reach the parking lot in about 20 minutes by car or via the beautiful Moselle cycle path in about 40-60 minutes.
Around Eltz Castle you will find the most beautiful hiking trails and a fantastic backdrop, as here in the golden fall.
You can find more castles on the beautifully designed website of the Mayen Tourist Information Office. Be sure to watch the videos: https://www.elzerland.de
Have fun visiting the most beautiful castle in the world 😉
